Breaking Point [Mixed media installation]
This piece is an attempt at blending the boundaries of fiction, writing, contemporary art and design (typography), to create a work that connects with the audience through a textually depicted conflict set in a domestic context. With this work I wish to observe whether the relationship the viewers form with the piece will differ from that which is formed with something that is represented abstractly, and more importantly how it will differ. Through the arrangement and dramatically heightened content of this piece I am attempting to place the viewer into a position of a voyeur, perhaps revealing something that he/she would not find pleasing to hear. We as human tend to be drawn to conflict. Whether it be conflict in form, colour or in our daily life: not being able to pass a car accident without turning around to at least briefly scan the wreck. This piece touches upon the darker side of our paradoxical human nature, depicting it in a tiny snapshot of an unknown man and woman’s life, at its breaking point.
